Reporting to the Chief Business Officer, the Executive Director, Alliance Management will provide knowledge-based leadership to ImmunoGen’s partnered programs. He/she will be critical to preserving and enhancing the intended value of ImmunoGen’s strategic alliances, including a multinational companion diagnostic partner, APAC development and commercialization partners, and innovative research collaborations. This critical leader will ensure ImmunoGen and its partners agree on goals, rules of engagement, committee structures and business processes to ensure that contractual obligations of the partnership are met in a complete and timely manner. He/she works to maximize the effectiveness and realize the full value of each partnership.

He/she is able to work effectively across internal functions and with senior/executive management. He/she has a proven ability to develop teams, build strong relationships with complex organizations, and proactively identify/respond to issues and opportunities that impact ImmunoGen and its partners. The ability to develop and manage successful collaborations with external and internal stakeholders is a key driver of success.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the alliance function and effectively manage external partnerships
  • Coordinate alliance activity across functions and provide communication from governance committees into the functions. Work closely with business and functional leaders to develop aligned positions before engaging with partner
  • Take responsibility for team interactions at multiple levels within the organization and all levels of governance meetings to ensure robust strategic discussions and decision-making
  • Interpret contractual agreements (in conjunction with legal counsel as required) and manage the associated contractual obligations
  • Monitor and report on key deliverables and timelines
  • Proactively identify issues, potential conflict, and risk of ImmunoGen’s alliances. Work with the team to drive resolution, manage and reduce complexity, preempt issues and facilitate conflict resolution
  • Conduct periodic assessments of the alliances, managing scorecards and metrics. Monitor the health and effectiveness of partnerships, identifying areas of strength and improvement
  • Work with functional leaders across ImmunoGen’s matrix to manage revenue and expenses in line with project plan and contribute to an effective resource planning process

Qualifications

  • Degree in life sciences; advanced degree or MBA preferred
  • 15 years of relevant pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience with at least 5 or more years in alliance management within various R&D, commercial, and/or corporate functions.
  • Proficiency in alliance management practices
  • Global experience in partnerships and/or extensive experience managing complex alliances, Direct experience leading a global alliance is preferred.
  • Understanding of oncology drug development is a plus
  • Energetic self-starter with a strong executive presence, collaborative mindset, and ability to think strategically and analytically
  • Strong leadership skills, including demonstrated ability to lead a cross-functional team, drive business decisions, manage multiple projects effectively in a fast-paced environment, and influence at all levels
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation and facilitation skills. Able to communicate across functions and bring people together around a common goal
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, including an ability to combine attention to detail with a big picture perspective. Has good business instincts. Thinks logically, develops and evaluates options, and identifies pros and cons, including recommendations
  • Experience in navigating complex organizations, developing effective partner relationships and building strong working alliances with internal partners. Understands the challenging and sometimes conflicting needs within a collaboration. Is able to identify how decisions are made and by whom within partner organizations
  • Self-directed, reliable, and results oriented
  • Sustained high performance in current and past positions
  • Flexibility in working hours to enable meetings with APAC partners and stakeholders, requiring early morning and late evening meetings at least once a week.
