ABOUT THE FLOCK
The Director, Scientific Communications, Sickle Cell, will serve as a highly visible and crucial team member within the Scientific Communications function. This role will bring deep Scientific Communications experience (Publications and/or Medical Communications) to the team and in doing so, inspire the entire scientific communications team to fly higher for the patients whom we all serve. Reporting into the Head of Scientific Communications, the Director of Scientific Communications will work with the Sickle Cell Sci Com Lead to ensure timely execution of a strategic scientific communication and publication plan for Sickle Cell.

HOW YOU’LL FLY
You'll help to bring more patients their bluebird days by:
- Partnering closely with Clinical Development and Medical Affairs Medical Directors to translate scientific, clinical, and real-world evidence data into impactful scientific communications deliverables for healthcare professionals and payers.
- Overseeing the management and timely execution of scientific communications deliverables (including publications) for one or more SGD therapies to ensure alignment with the product communication strategy, medical affairs objectives, medical launch plans and overall brand strategy.
- Managing one or more vendor partnerships to drive execution of publications and medical communications deliverables.
- Providing scientific communication input and review of corporate materials
- Serving as a scientific communications and publications ambassador to the cross-functional team and business, and ensuring adoption of publication and communication ethics, corporate policies, and best practices.
- Representing the Scientific Communications function in your regular interactions with external opinion leaders, professional societies, and vendors
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
You’re the bird we’re looking for if you have:
- Highly proactive, organized, and driven to deliver for the Sickle Cell medical team
- An Advanced Degree (PhD preferred; MD or PharmD considered) in biological sciences or other area of life sciences required and 5+ years experience at a biotechnology/pharmaceutical company or publications/medical communications vendor (titling in line with experience)
- Expert knowledge of ICMJE recommendations, Good Publication Practices, healthcare compliance related to publications and medical communication materials, and emerging trends in the digital/scientific communications space
- Experience driving execution of scientific publications and/or medical communication deliverables in a biotechnology/pharmaceutical company or at a medical/communications vendor is highly desirable
- Strong interest in or experience with driving publication and med com materials success to enable a successful product launch
- Proven ability to work with external stakeholders (HCPs, vendors, scientific societies) and internal stakeholders (multiple levels across medical, development, etc) to effectively solve complex issues and deliver scientific communications under pressure
- Strong scientific knowledge and attention to detail, with a desire to deliver high quality
- Positive, team-focused attitude with a desire to learn and grow by tackling new challenges and opportunities in the scientific communications space
- Prior experience as a medical writer (direct content development beyond vendor management) is highly desirable, as is experience supporting both publication and medical communication deliverables
- We encourage folks with less experience to apply as the position can also be considered at the Associate Director level.
Compensation & Benefits
We offer a total compensation and rewards package that ranks among the best in our industry. Base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The anticipated annualized salary range for this role is $185,040 - $245,984. Your base pay will be determined based on several factors including market data, demonstrated skills, relevant education or training, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and travel requirements. Our overall package also includes eligibility for stock, incentive bonuses, and benefit programs, a flexible time off program, as well as 28 paid holidays, including 2 company shutdowns.
